The Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, is inviting proposals for the implementation of short- term and medium-term priority projects emanating from Les Assises de la Recherche et de l’Innovation and National Roadmap for Research and Innovation. The Call is open to both Expatriates (in partnership with a local entity as identified in the Guidelines) and Citizens.
A partial or full grant up to Rs2m will be considered for successful applications received by 16 October 2023 within a the below Thematic Areas an its identified projects in the National Roadmap for Research and Innovation (mric.mu/_files/ugd/f94712_c1b1a364bd284fa8ac9273fe423211a3.pdf) which will be considered for funding under this Call are as follows:
Financial Innovation
- Market Aggregators (Short-term)
- Cybersecurity (Short-term)
- Regulation Technology (RegTech) (Medium-term)
Blue and Green Innovation
- Blockchain food traceability (Short-term)
- Biotechnological tools to breed crops with a longer shelf life (Short-term)
Manufacturing of biodegradable and compostable blue and green products (Medium-term)
Travel, Tourism and Entertainment Innovation
- Developing social conscience and responsible citizens: research on innovative international best practices (Short-term)
- Turnover and turnaway intention of employees and perceptions of customers and hotel employees towards introduction of service robots in the tourism industry (Short-term)
- Digital mapping of natural heritage sites and other tourist attraction sites (Medium-term)
Health & Wellness Innovation
- Ayurvedic/Traditional Medicine (Short-term)
- Use of digital technologies in the Health and Wellness Sector (Short-term)
- Promoting a nutraceutical industry (Medium-term)
Social and Grassroots Innovation

Evaluation Criteria
The criteria for assessment of project proposals include, where applicable, the following:
· Research and Development aspect of the project
· Innovativeness of the technology/ product/process/service;
· Feasibility of initiative in terms of budgeting, objectives and activities;
· Competence, capability and readiness of the team or entity to carry out the initiative and commercialize the opportunity;
· Matching grants or part-funding is encouraged;
· Alignment with national priority areas;
· Attractiveness of the product or service in the targeted market;
· Potential impact of the innovation on the economy and society; and
· Alignment with sustainable development goals is encouraged.
