The Intermediate Court (Civil) Division delivered a judgment in Ferme Marine de Mahebourg Ltd v Noe Arminio Vurdapa Naicken [2025 INT 47] – the Trial court as can be seen in the judgment found the Defendant liable of having committed acts of defamation injuring the good reputation of Ferme Marine de Mahebourg.
The case which revolves around the reputation of the Ferme Marine de Mahebourg fish farm puts into question the practice of fish farming. Evidence was put forth to support the good reputation of the fish farm and the good practice of fish farming. An element of the judgment was adducing of evidence derived from BBC’s report by Reporter Nora Fakim with respect to the practice of coral farming in the same region of the fish farm.
